Ari Silverman

Ari Silverman concentrates his practice on complex commercial litigation in state and federal courts.  Ari has represented public and privately-held corporations, including domestic and international financial institutions, monoline insurers and pharmaceutical companies, as well as individuals.  He has helped clients resolve disputes relating to mortgage-backed securities, mergers and acquisitions, Department of Justice and Securities and Exchange Commission FCPA and accounting-related investigations, and RICO and Consumer Fraud litigations.  Ari has also counseled governmental agencies and government-sponsored enterprises in connection with real and threatened litigations arising from contemplated and undertaken business decisions.  Ari has advised corporations on corporate governance issues and has conducted internal investigations in response to, and in anticipation of, regulatory inquiries and commercial litigation.  Ari has significant experience managing complex, large-scale projects, including e-discovery projects involving multiple sources of electronically-stored information and expert reports.

Strongly committed to pro bono work, Ari has been recognized by the New York State Bar Association and the Legal Aid Society for his efforts on several occasions. He has helped public housing tenants facing eviction, disabled persons challenging social security and other benefits denials, foreign-born persons seeking asylum in the United States, and non-profit groups in a variety of situations, from starting up to resolving employment disputes.  Ari has represented clients in housing court, in administrative hearings, and before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, on the trial and appellate level.

Ari has presented CLEs and frequently trains others in areas of e-discovery, privilege and document review and production.  He also frequently visits law schools and sits on panels to discuss his litigation experiences, as well as to provide students training on interviewing and resume-writing.

Ari practiced in the litigation department of Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft in New York for 8 years prior to joining Paduano & Weintraub.

  • A monoline insurer in four-year civil litigation against a ResCap affiliate to recover billions of dollars in losses arising out of financial guarantee insurance policies provided in connection with several RMBS transactions.
  • A professional athlete in connection with multiple lawsuits alleging violations of New Jersey’s RICO and Consumer Fraud statutes, and other torts.
  • The audit committee of Fortune 150 company in an independent, international investigation in connection with a Securities and Exchange Commission investigation into accounting fraud.
  • A pharmaceutical company in connection with resisting a hostile takeover and undertaking a corporate inversion.
  • An international beverage company in connection with $2 billion corporate dissolution proceeding, the largest in New York history.
  • The Department of the Treasury, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in connection with various real and threatened litigations arising from contemplated and undertaken business decisions and official actions.

EDUCATION:

Ari received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Rutgers College at Rutgers University, and he earned a Juris Doctor from Rutgers School of Law, where he was recognized as an Honorable Joseph F. Smith Scholar, was a recipient of the Nathan N. Schildkraut Award for excellence in appellate advocacy, and was the Chairperson of the Moot Court Board.
